Don’t you just love a clickbait kind of header! By now you should know that this is totally in regards to tennis and my current ongoing obsession.

I played tennis for fun here and there but never really understood the game or anything. When I moved to Nadi in February this year, I decided to take up proper coaching lessons. I also thought it would be a good hobby that would keep me busy and help with routine and discipline, while I tried to navigate Nadi living and settle in.

I reached out to Viti Tennis and enquired about coaching lessons and signed up for my first session. Ashley and Krishneel are the two coaches that run Viti Tennis Academy and have about 15 or so kids and a mix of adults that they coach and train. The kids are amazing and represent and play at tournaments regionally and away. Recently the tennis moms have also joined in for social hits and its really nice to see everyone involved.

I signed up with the Nadi Sports Club not realizing how much of a community thing this club was/is. Every sport that is played here at the club is taken seriously and in good spirit, and that I found impressive. It truly is motivating to be in spaces like this because it really makes you want to do your best.

It has been five months since I started, and I am pleasantly surprised at my progress. Never thought I would get so into Tennis ever, yet here I am, work in progress. After playing club matches, I now prepare for the upcoming Suva Tennis Open. I am super excited and nervous about it because this would be the first time for me to compete at something of this scale. I do consider myself an amateur tennis player, but I do enjoy it heaps and as terrified as I am to compete at this scale, I just hope I do well!

I am grateful for the support from Ashely and Neel, Raynal, the two Chrises, Joren, Yoon, Ranish and everyone else that I have had a hit with and that makes me fight for my life while at it!

Like I always say, find a hobby that makes you feel alive (albeit while fighting for your life) and one that you truly enjoy. No matter what age you are, it is never too late to discover a new hobby because trust me, either way your back is gonna hurt (sport or no sport). I can also now confirm that my next vlog will be about this journey, so stayed tuned for that.

Now back to training....
