Cambodia: Kroya means food, but I think it really means good food!

The food has been the main character in Southeast Asia for me, and my tastebuds have been ruined for life in the best possible way!
When I arrived in Siem Reap, I kept thinking of which food tour to go on and then Modern Cambodian Cuisine - Kroya by Chef Chanrith appeared on my screen. A fine dining experience where Khmer cuisine meets today. I love me a good fine dining experience and booked myself a table for dinner.
Once I understood more of the Khmer history which is one of Southeast Asia’s oldest continuous civilizations with their roots dating back to over 1500 years, I was eager to try this degustation. Kroya has been put together by Chef Chanrith a Cambodian Chef with impressive culinary vision.
I made sure I ate the bare minimum during the day and soon enough I was in my remorque off to dinner. I love how I get the question “Table for 2 madam?”, and then I proceed with my classic, “Table for 1, but I will eat for 2, don’t you worry!”. (I know, lame right! haha)
The lovely lady that served me that night was too kind, gracious and explained each course of the meal and ingredients used. I went with the 6-course set menu with wine pairing, assuming that this would be a petit sort of meal style and drink, but I was so wrong. By the 4th course, I was getting super full and I kept eating, because of who I am as a person (LOL). Despite being full, I cleaned the dessert plate, because I can be full AF and will always have room for dessert!
As each course was explained to me, and as I savored it, I understood the flavors and the blend of two different worlds. It is hard to explain in writing! So that means if and when, you are in Siem Reap you have to add Kroya by Chef Chanrith to your list of things to do. You will not be disappointed.
After enjoying street food tours in the other two countries, this fine dining experience in and for Cambodia was AMAZING! After my bougie dinner, and the unsuspecting wine pairing hit, I then asked my remorque driver to spin me around Pub Street. But that story, is for another time! Cheers!
